Layout

An important part of Better Plot is the ability to create and reuse customised series/plots/samples using the LAYOUT sheet.

Introduction:

The LAYOUT sheet serves as an interface for systematically formatting the series contained in the graphs. It is structured around a number of editable columns containing the information needed to format a series. Each row corresponds to the layout of a series.

In its initial state, the LAYOUT page is empty and when a graphic is created, Better Plot will automatically update it with:

  1. adding the names of the various recognised series
  2. if the formatting of a series is empty, complete it with automatic formatting

There are two ways of using the LAYOUT sheet:

  • generate the graphics, then change the automatic layout using the “update layout” button in the ribbon
  • define your personal layout, then generate graphics that automatically use this layout

The columns :

Series name :

This column is passive: it is automatically (re)completed by Better Plot each time a new graph is generated, and a change to it has no effect. It contains and serves only to identify the name of the series.

marker & line color :

This column is used to select the colour of the series (marker and line colours). To access the colour selection window, simply right-click on the corresponding cell. After selecting a colour, the background colour of the cell is updated, along with its value, which corresponds to the hexadecimal value of the colour.

option 1 : copy and paste colours

you can transmit any colour or group of colours by copying and pasting the hexadecimal values into the cells. This simplifies the transfer of formatting from one file to another.

option 2 : create a colour gradient

if you select several rows before right-clicking, this will automatically create a gradient towards white, adapting to the number of cells selected.

marker shape :

This column is used to select the type of marker to be used for the series from a list. If you don’t want any markers, select “none”.

option 1 :

If you select several lines before changing markers, this will automatically change all the lines to the next marker to create a complete variation.

marker size :

Choice of marker size.

marker / line transparency :

Choice of marker and line transparency: 0 = 0% (opaque) and 1 = 100% (transparent).

line style :

This column is used to select the line style to be used for the series from a list. If you don’t want a line, select “none”.

line / border tickness :

This column is used to select the size of the lines in a series, including the lines between the points (markers) and the border of the markers.

border color :

This column is used to select the colour of the marker borders in the series.
